An Afternoon in a Scottish Bookstore

“Do you actually use the stove during the winter?” I asked.

“It depends on what you mean by actually,” gently rebuffed the owner of Leakey’s Bookshop in Inverness, Scotland, as he handed me my purchase, a bookbag with the store name, the only thing we could fit in our suitcases. He followed up with, “How long have you been using your house furnace?”

Knowing when to fold, I asked about his store’s history. The less colorful version you can read about here.

When Rebecca and I visited Paris for three days in 2018, we still joke that we never saw the Eiffel Tower. Once you walk into the arrondisements, it’s easy to get lost.

Yesterday, at breakfast, we talked over the itinerary for our last day in Inverness and asked,

Would we take a wander around the city or hunt the loch for Nessie?
