It arrived yesterday like Anton’s (Javier Bardem) white sedan at the isolated gas station in the film No Country for Old Men.

Rain, sleet, and finally snow.

Weighty.

Implacable.

“Paul, I’ll help, said Rebecca, We’re due at Bruce and Michelle’s in two hours. And we could walk.”

“They’re a mile away, and the wind is gusting,” I said.

We’ll bundle up, and I’ll put on my new stocking cap you bought me with turtle fur.”

“Tails I shovel, heads we wait for it to melt tomorrow and walk.”

“It figures. We’ve been watching The American Revolution. I’ll wager George didn’t shovel at Valley Forge. I’ve got this. You’ve still got a cold. Besides, it’s downhill.”
